Yucca plants are thriving in the sand dunes. Something locals appreciate as the sand dunes are one of the best protections against tidal surge during hurricanes. These dunes are healthier and more mature than I've seen them in 27 years. The native grasses, flowers and yucca provide a beautiful array of colors and textures. The yucca really stand out, looking like cactus with the sun reflecting off their smooth sword-like leaves. Everything about painting these was fun, except for the fishy odor emanating from a nearby trash can. It was totally worth it!
