The world is full of so many yummy colors, and when you first start painting trying to mix them can quickly become overwhelming. What is a warm yellow versus a cool? How do you gray down a color and why do you want to? How does color temperature impact a painting and how do you achieve color harmony? And landscapes and nature in particular are full of So..Many...Greens! Did you know that the human eye is more sensitive to greens than any other color? This can make understanding and mixing greens the most challenging of any other color, and becoming proficient in mixing your greens will actually help improve your skills mixing every color on the wheel!
In this color mixing journey Beth will guide you in an exploration of how to mix a wide variety of colors on a split primary palette (if you don't know what this means, don't worry she'll teach you!) You learn to adjust value, temperature and chroma and vastly expand your color mixing repertoire! This workshop is tailored for levels from beginner to intermediate.
- Demystifying the color wheel and understanding it's power
- How to adjust the value, temperature and chroma of numerous colors
- The difference between tonalist and colorist mixing
- Balancing what you see with what you know
The workshop is structured into exercises the first part of the day, you'll really dive deep into mixing and apply all of the concepts you have just learned. Each exercise is designed to help you build confidence and make color mixing feel more "second nature" as you are painting. After completing the exercises, students will move to an easel and work on a painting or subject matter of their choice and solidify your skills even further by applying your knowledge to a painting under Beth's encouraging guidance.
