Oh the glory of sunrise, the beach, unspoiled sand dunes, an early morning walk with loved ones! Morning Glory is my celebration of all that glory!
I've long admired the incredible paintings of southwestern rock formations: the red rocks of Sedona, the majesty of Yosemite, and of course, the awe of the Grand Canyon. They provide artists a terrific opportunity to study the effects of light in nature. So naturally, I've been in search of a comparable subject to learn from in North Carolina. And I think I've found it, at least for me: sand dunes. They offer an incredible study of light effects, form and atmospheric perspective. Morning Glory is the fourth in a series of sand dune paintings I've been working on; all based on a hike with my sister and niece along the NC coast at New Year's. Not only has working on this series given me the opportunity to deeply study concepts important to landscape painting, it's also given me the opportunity to relive those special conversations we shared during those hikes. I am one lucky person to have the opportunity to spend my time doing something that celebrates the scenes and feelings I love so much. Thank you for joining me on this glorious journey! |
