Well hello there Subscriber! Feels like a long time, no see!
Last week was the culmination of so much stuff. My sister, Mary Jo, was in town to participate in a dry run of my upcoming Beyond Beginners, a beginners (or a refresher) oil painting class for adults. And finishing the preparations for a reception and awards ceremony for a national show I'm chairing. Whew! It was crazy busy but all that is behind me now. I'm pleased with the outcomes, and most grateful for the help.
The painting you see above was done by Mary Jo, in that dry run of my upcoming class. Don't those apples look juicy? This is her first oil painting EVER! She's one smart cookie, paid close attention to the lessons, and caught on super fast. Best of all, it sounds like she is going to pursue painting! Yayyy!!! Maybe painting with Mom will become painting with Mom and Sis!
About that national juried show I chaired: the whole experience has left me contemplating the content of a potential article about juried shows: the role of show chairs and behind-the-scenes advice for participating artists. Based on stories I've already shared with local cohorts, someone suggested I write a book. I'm not quite ready to sign up for another major project as this one winds down, but an article for potential publication in an art magazine sounds doable.
So this week has me picking up the pieces that were dropped as last week's dry-run class and reception drew near. I'm so eager to use my neglected paint brushes again! I've got a commission that includes two pieces in the works, and another sand dune painting. Plus I really want to spend more time plein air painting.
Ever onward!
