Hey, Subscriber!
I hope you're having a great week!
Now that the National juried show I'm chairing is hung, my week suddenly feels less heavy.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I agreed to chair the Fine Arts League of Cary's nationwide annual juried exhibition! On one hand, I'm very thankful for the opportunity and the trust in me to get the job done. On the other hand, wow - what an insight into what it takes to host a national show.
Let me just start by saying that my experience in the corporate world saved my behiney-parts! Maybe nowadays, business is a part of the art school curriculum, but it certainly wasn't while I was in school.
The last few days were filled with project management, employee relations (but this time with artists as I enforced the rules of the show as outlined in the show prospectus), and communications. But, it's all paid off with a beautiful show.
We had over 600 entries, with 68 invited artists. For a variety of reasons, 54 are represented in this exhibition with some from as far away as Hawaii, California and New Hampshire.
Jennifer Dasal, the show juror and curator, was formerly the curator of modern and contemporary art at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, North Carolina. She now writes, produces and hosts the independent podcast ArtCurious, which she started in 2016 and which was named one of the best podcasts by O, The Oprah Magazine and PC Magazine. She lectures frequently on art both locally and nationally. If you're up for a good art mystery, you'll really enjoy her podcast! If only Art History in college had been that interesting!
If you're in the area, check out the 27th FALC Annual Juried Exhibition at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center in Cary, NC. If you're not local, not to fret, you can check out the online exhibiton here.
And all are invited to the Exhibition Reception and Awards Ceremony on May 27 from 6 - 8 at the Page-Walker.
