“I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me, they are the role model for being alive.” ~ Gilda Radner, Comedian
Whewie! Things are cranking up in the studio! That's a nice problem to have and is exactly what I've been working towards these last three years.
I'll have two paintings in the annual Visual Art Exchange Auction to be held in April (with online bidding!), two entries submitted to a juried show, and two more juried shows pending that I intend to enter. In addition, I'm scheduled to participate in the Raleigh City Farm's Bearthday event, I'm in discussions with a new hospital about possibly including one of my paintings in their collection, and I've got to prepare paintings for my first museum exhibition later this year (more about that as the show approaches). And I have one commission on the easel and two commissions in the hopper. Time to dust off those time management skills from my days in the corporate world!
You'll find details about all these happenings at the bottom of this email. A Photo Shoot with Bella One of my commissions will be to paint little Miss Bella. Bella is a 4 month old yellow lab! Oh my gosh, can you say love at first sight? As a former lab owner myself, they hold a special soft spot in my heart. Bella is old enough to be very active and curious, but young enough to still have a tad of that adorable puppy fat. There are two kinds of Labrador: those who are constantly on the move, and those who are content to laze around their human's feet. I have a hunch that Bella will be the latter. Bella was not on her home turf when I met her, so of course there were lots of new things to explore. And boy, did she ever! She and her humans came over so that I could get to know her, and take my own reference photos as we begin the commission process. But she was so busy exploring, I only captured bits and pieces of her in my photos. Once I got down on the ground with her, she settled right into my arms, and we took lots of selfies. This is what leads me to believe she will grow into a laid back lab, or maybe even a lap lab if she can get away with it! Who knew that a stick and a leaf could be so mesmerizing? Bella did! Between her sweet disposition and the afternoon sun, we got lots of photo reference to work from. Now to pick out the top three, and work with her humans to decide which one will become the painting.
Photographing Bella made for a delightful afternoon. Surely getting to know her will help me capture her personality in the painting!
