Strawberry Fields
"Strawberry Fields" 24x30", oil on linen. This is the first in a series
of paintings documenting the vanishing rural landscape along two-lane
country road.
I'm honored to share that this painting was juried into the National
Landscapes & Seascapes Show at 311 Gallery in Raleigh, NC Sept 6 - 29,
2018.
Painting rural landscapes
I recently learned that the rural two lane country road my neighborhood
feeds into has been proposed for widening to 4 or 6 lanes with
construction beginning in 2023. That's just 5 years away!
Yes, traffic has become significantly worse during the 24 years I've
lived "in the country" so I understand the need. At the same time, the
thought of losing more farmland and wildlife habitat to pavement and
suburbia makes me sad.
To help people cope with this future loss, I've begun a series of
paintings to document the rural beauty along this road with the goal of
having a solo exhibition to showcase this work.
To date, I've completed three paintings for this series. Ultimately the
series will include approximately 12 to 15 pieces.
Once I get a few more paintings completed, I will begin work to secure
a venue. You'll hear about the opening reception and dates of the
exhibition with hopes that you will join me in celebrating the legacy
